Megan Bloomfield is a Cardiff based artist studying for a Master of Fine Art degree in Cardiff Metropolitan.
The centre of her practice is the use of modern craft techniques, and the subversion/ negation of function of objects based on material and humorous aesthetic. Currently looking at using Tufting, Ceramics and found objects, to explore how craft relates to the domestic space.
“Using familiar domestic objects, makes it easier for the viewer to relate to, and allows them to question their own function. Whilst also drawing on the connection between women, the domestic space, and traditional women’s craft.”
“A New still life” is a piece that questions the place of both traditional and modern craft techniques in a contemporary space. It questions the value of these techniques by comparing it to traditional fine art practices such as paintings and drawings.
